Hicksville Exempted Village Schools recently received a grant from the The Ohio Arts Council for $6,000.00 to host an Artist in Residence. This program is designed to partner real artists with school art programs. Our guest is Klaire Smith, a multimedia artist, whose speciality is murals. She has been working with Mr. Christopher Gaghan and Mr. Joey Stevenson to plan the project she will be working on with our students. We are still working out the details of Ms Smith’s schedule but she will spend 20 days with our students during art classes, 2 days per week beginning March 7. She will also be working with the 21st century after school program on Tuesdays during her 10 week residency. The grant pays for her fee and the 21st Century grant will cover supplies and lodging expenses. Mr. Gaghan and Mr. Stevenson have been working with Ms. Smith on the design aspects of the mural which will be ready for public viewing at the Spring Art Show. A permanent location for the mural will be near the playground doors.
