Hicksville Schools

The Hicksville High School Drama Department is pleased to announce that the 2023 high school musical will be Stephen Sondheim's INTO THE WOODS! The musical intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales, exploring the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests. The main characters are taken from "Little Red Riding Hood", "Jack and the Beanstalk", "Rapunzel", and "Cinderella", as well as several others. The musical is tied together by a story involving a childless baker and his wife and their quest to begin a family, their interaction with a witch who has placed a curse on them, and their interaction with other storybook characters during their journey. This musical will be rated PG-13. Mark your calendars for March 3, 4, and 5! You won't want to miss this one!

VARSITY SOFTBALL / JV BASEBALL - The varsity softball and JV baseball games scheduled for today (Monday, March 28th) have been CANCELLED.

5th graders had a great time at Camp Palmer learning about ecosystems, food chains and habitats.

Congratulations to the Spring semi-finalists in the Innovative Interview competition! Cameron Durre, Noah Harmon, Eric Eiden, Alex Kenner, Nadiah Eiden, Jadea-lyn Blair, Aubrie Baird, Rylen Bassett, and Asher Ukena.

On March 14, the Hicksville High School Student Council joined with the American Red Cross to hold the annual blood drive for students, staff, and the community. This was the first time we were allowed to hold a drive since 2019! Due to Covid-19, we were limited to a smaller number of workers and donors, but we were still able to collect 20 units of blood and save 60 lives! Great job, Aces! This was an excellent example of teamwork and service. We are very proud! We would like to extend a huge thank you to all of the donors and volunteers.

Last week 5th grade students combined the idea of force and motion to create wind lifts to raise a cup of pennies. We had some creative designs. Thanks to Ohio Energy Project for the materials.

Meet our ANNIE! Annie is played by McKenna Bergman! She is a fifth-grader at Hicksville Middle School, but this is not her first HHS show! She also appeared as Chip in Beauty and the Beast and as a party guest in The Sound of Music! McKenna is so excited to perform with this cast and says that everyone will be amazed by all of the talent! Don't miss this one! We hope you will join us for ANNIE on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday!

Meet the Ensemble! Ensemble members are the heart and soul of any show! These amazing performers do a little bit of everything and make the show come to life. In ANNIE, they play Hooverville residents, servants, NYC citizens, radio announcers, presidential cabinet members, and everything in between! They also help backstage when they can. Many of them have had to learn five to six roles for the show! We love our ensemble!! Come see them shine next weekend! March 4 - 7:30 p.m. March 5 - 7:30 p.m. March 6 - 2:00 p.m.

Meet Emily Harmon! Emily is a senior this year, and she portrays Miss Hannigan, the woman who runs the orphanage, in ANNIE. It has been a great challenge for Emily to portray one of the villains in this show! Emily's voice will knock your socks off! Come see her in her final high school show! MEET SANDY! Sandy is played by Barrett Thomas! Barrett is everyone's favorite cast member and was voted "most similar to his character" by the cast! We also want to give a special shout-out to his awesome human, Jennifer Thomas! Jennifer helps out at rehearsals and handles Barrett backstage. She's the best! Barrett is so excited to be in his first musical! Come see him on stage next week! The show runs March 4 (7:30), 5 (7:30), and 6 (2:00). Tickets are $12 and will be sold at the door. WRESTLING SECTIONAL TOURNAMENT – Hicksville will participate in the Sectional Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, February 26th at 9:00am. Tickets are available online at https://www.ohsaa.org/tickets . NO tickets will be sold at the gate.

BOYS’ SECTIONAL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT – Hicksville will play North Central in the Sectional Basketball Tournament at Bryan HS on Wednesday, February 23rd at 5:30pm. It will be a SPLIT SESSION. Tickets are available online at https://www.ohsaa.org/tickets . NO tickets will be sold at the gate.

GIRLS’ DISTRICT BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT – Hicksville will play Crestview in the District Basketball Tournament at Defiance HS on Thursday, February 24th at approximately 7:30pm. The first game between Lincolnview and Ottoville will start at 5:30pm and it will be a SPLIT SESSION. Tickets are available online at https://www.ohsaa.org/tickets . Cash tickets will be available at the gate for $10.

Meet Noah Harmon! Noah plays the lead role of Oliver Warbucks in ANNIE! He is a sophomore this year, but he has been acting in HHS musicals since he played Kurt in THE SOUND OF MUSIC in 2018. Noah is a versatile actor and has played everything from Disney characters to Buddy the elf! Come see Noah and the rest of this talented cast!
